The Clangers were created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, whose wife knitted the original figures.
They first appeared on TV in 1969 and these curious creatures from another planet, with their distinctive whistle, have captured our imaginations ever since.
Major Clanger is the head of the family. He is the oldest, largest, and most important of the Clangers. He wears an armour of beaten brass to protect himself from objects that fall from the sky.
Mother Clanger looks after all of the Clangers. She is kind and loving, like all mothers, but she sometimes gets a little cross when the small Clangers are naughty!
